Rather innovative, but name associations could have been more metal

McNeil and Divola have compiled a cute and witty book; but I just wish they'd selected better associations for the letters "S" and "W."

"A," for example, is for "Angus" and "K" is for "Kiss." Many letter associations are unexpected, but intriguing. While including Queen and Zeppelin under "Q" and "Z" doesn't bother me, associating "S" with the Rolling Stones and "W" with the Windmills of Pete Townshend of The Who does. With only 26 letters in the alphabet, better choices for a book on "METAL" might have been:

Sabbath, Slayer, Saxon, Sepultura, Sludge Metal, spikes, Stoner Metal, or even Scorpions, Soundgarden, Slipknot or Stoner Rock; WACKEN, whiplash, White Zombie, wizards, war, war pigs, W.A.S.P., Western Civilization, or WEBZINES. Since this book was published in 2008 I would've preferred something more on target.

Beautifully Hardcore

My best friend's older brother recently had a baby with his fiancee. This book was perfect for them. He was all about sex, drugs, and rock and roll and then he had a family and grew up. This book is perfect to help him be that family man but still be as awesomely cool as he was in college. I hope there are more books like this to help teach my children how cool you can be and still be smart and educated. I love when education, books and learning can be formed into something so hardcore and cool. I would reccomend this book to any former hardcore punks that are now mainstreaming with a new family.

This book describes a fraud fighter's story. The many different types of fraud he has uncovered. A great read. I purchased it for my fraud class and used excerpts extensively during class time. It is not only a great book to read, but also a tool to use while teaching the topic of financial fraud.

Mr. Wells weaves an amazing tale in this autobiography. Rising from dirt poor conditions and a bad family life, he worked his way through school and became a FBI Special Agent and went on to found the premier fraud-fighting organization in the world.

Interesting Read

After hearing many years of stories about Dr. Wells, his colorful background, and the formulation of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE), it was refreshing to finally read a detailed account of Dr. Wells' life, career, and accomplishments, both good and bad, and better understand the man behind the ACFE. I firmly believe that for someone to belong to an organization and a profession, they must take the time to learn and understand how things came to be, and not simply follow along because of its existence. This book provided me the best chronology I have found to date on how the fraud profession and the ACFE came into existence, coupled with Dr. Wells' driving force and commitment to making it happen. While some of the details in Dr. Well's account were unexpected, leaving me to wonder why he revealed some of his more personal information outside the scope of the fraud field, the inclusion completed the puzzle I always had based on my personal interactions with him. Regardless, I still respect him for what he accomplished. Simply the ACFE would not exist today had it not been for his vision and his efforts, and some 60,000 ACFE members worldwide have him and a few others to thank for making it possible.

Missing features on iPad

NOTE: The problems listed below are specific to the iPad, and it is my understanding that they do not exist in the iBooks version. I have upgraded my rating to reflect the fact that the Kindle software -- not Hornady -- is to blame for these shortcomings.

I have the printed version of this book as well so I knew, generally, what to expect. Newcomers should be aware that only Hornady bullets are listed, although this is neither surprising nor particularly detrimental.

I was disappointed to find that the user is not given the ability to search, which would be a tremendous asset in a reference volume such as this. The consolation for this loss is that a caliber's data can be found by clicking on its name in the Table of Contents. This utility, however, is lessened by the fact that each trip to the Contents requires you to first digitally thumb past four unrelated pages before reaching the list of calibers.

Substantially more disappointing is the inability to create bookmarks. I should be able to bookmark the calibers that I load, so I'm not constantly having to click here and swipe there in order to once again find frequently accessed data.

Not for tablet use

Hornady's engineering (and Emery's) superb!! However, the Kindle version is over-lawyered to the point where the recommended accessory is eye surgery, specatcles, and a magnifying glass. Unreadable on my HP Slate 7 table. They need to get out of the windows 95 era.

I will have to buy the print version for actual use.

Formatting Problems

This is a good book but the Kindle version has some serious formatting issues in certain areas of the book. Some charges will not show up in B & W, and in a couple of areas the pages are out sized. PG 860 for example

Michael Snyder (Portland, OR) is the president of TheRawDiet.com, and an expert on vegetarian and vegan raw foods nutrition. He has been active in the raw foods community for the past nine years. He has studied with Viktoras Kulvinskas, the founder of the modern raw foods movement and with Gabriel Cousens, one of its best known proponents. As a health coach, Snyder assists clients worldwide in transitioning to raw foods. He provides keynote addresses and presentations, food prep demonstrations, seminars, and teleseminars throughout the Pacific Northwest and across the country.

Nancy Faass, MSW, MPH (San Francisco, CA) is a full-time freelance writer and editor based in San Francisco. She holds a master's in public health from UC Berkeley. Great way to get your feet wet

I inherited a MakerBot Replicator 2X when I moved into a new classroom space, and this text has been a great way to get my feet wet with the nuts and bolts of getting the most out of the printer without simply relying on designs from Thingverse. There's a lot here that fits with the CMK/MakerEd ethos of being willing to take off the teacher hat and put on a learner hat. The "recipes," while prescriptive, are helpful in making me feel at ease working with an expensive piece of school purchased equipment. I'm glad my school's Director of Libraries got this book, and can see it being a great resource in the year ahead as our middle school's makerspace takes off.

The Invent To Learn Guide to 3D Printing in the Classroom was a great overview of the different types of 3D printers, CAD programs and what they are capable of, types of plastics used and why and some great projects to try using the different CAD type programs. I found this very informative and a great launching pad into 3D printing.

I've been interested in learning 3D Printing, from design to production, since I first heard of this new emerging technology. I happened to be browsing Amazon and found this ebook available for free for a limited time so I went ahead and downloaded it. I'm happy I did because now I feel I have a better understanding about the 3D printing process and how simple it can be. The author makes it look easy to do so if I do decide to create my own 3D products in the future based on what I've learned from this book I will feel more comfortable applying that knowledge. Loved it

I wish we had gotten more of John in his leather suit, but still, I enjoyed this very much. Brady is adorable, and I loved how he was never willing to be a doormat. It was great to see a dominant character like John be dominant, but still challenged when he needed to. Can't wait to see what Heart comes out with next!

I really like this author, so when I got notified about this series I couldn't wait to read it. I couldn't put it down.
When the story started with people having powers, I laughed and thought what the H$LL?!? But at least it didn't turn out as outlandish as I thought it would.
It's a love story. When they meet their soul mate they "spark". Brady's in college and rooms with is best friend, Jake. So Jake knows that Brady doesn't date and it's been a long time since he's even been with someone. Jake is determined to get Brady hooked-up. Brady's type happens to look very similar to the villain known as The Mask, dressed in head-to-toe leather and built like a Greek God. The Mask happens to break into the Science building on campus and Jake drags Brady over in hopes of at least getting a picture. When Brady faces The Mask there's an instant connection. When The Mask touches him, they Spark. Since the timing was bad, The Mask tells Brady to meet him at the campus bar later. Brady watches every guy who walks in but none look like they could be him. Then one man walks in, dressed in an expensive suit, similar in build to The Mask. Jake tells Brady that he's Laurence Ackman. Laurence notices Brady and he goes over, introduces himself and when Brady shakes his hand he feels the Spark so intense he couldn't believe it. Laurence takes Brady out and into his car. Brady feels something is off and when Laurence says he's going to take Brady to his Dungeon, he knows that this not what he wants and jumps out of the car as it stops. Laurence gives Chase but Brady manages to get away. He heads to the airport to go home. Before he figures out what flight he can get on, he's approached from behind and when the guy speaks to him he knows it's The Mask. The Mask, John, teleported them to his home in Alaska. John explains to Brady most of what's going on and that Brady needs to stay there, hidden, until John can figure a way to make things safe. The first few books in the Series are about John and Brady getting to know each although it's mainly through hot sex. There's some drama, some relationship growing pains. The last two books are when things really heat up. Brady can't get a hold of Jake and finds out that Ackman "sparked" him in order to draw out Brady and John.
Brady begs John to help Jake and when he won't then Brady confronts Ackman himself. Things go from bad to worse but it is an HEA.
The suspense in the last two books, especially the last had me literally on the edge of my seat, holding my breath.
A definite must read.

One of Heart's weaker series in my views. Pretty slow to take off, and never really stays aloft.

This was pretty tepid for Heart. I'm a big fan, but I read this in serialized form, and the last two entries (parts 4&5) seemed unusually weak from this author, who is usually able to tell a good yarn and keep the sexual tension and interest at a high level. Hoping for more from the next series.

This book is superb for readers wanting to expand their knowledge of conflict management, and wanting insight into a particular Islamic institution. It also describes the ways in which a minority group can relate, culturally and legally, to the majority culture. It offers a wonderfully detailed account of the relationships of individual and group at many levels of awareness. But most significantly for a conflict resolution audience, and indeed for any audience wanting to know how institutions can make deep changes in attitude and behavior, this book lays out the operating particulars and the operating theories of one functioning conflict management institution. With brilliantly clear writing, this book shows precisely how peace can be made by a whole culture even in the most explosive and delicate of circumstances.

This is a superb study, essential reading for anyone who wants to truly understand the ways in which clan conflicts are resolved throughout the Muslim and Arab worlds through the process of Sulha--"settlement" in Arabic. A mode of dispute management and of achieving communal restorative justice, Sulha operates independently of national or formal legal systems. At the same time, a notable feature of the book is that it excludes the shaming of either party to a conflict, but demonstrates instead the efficacy of a "re-integrative honoring concept." This is key to a process that comprises the elements of honoring--acknowledgement--change--restoration. As a Jew who spent two and half years living with his wife in an Arab village of 40,000 near Nazareth in northern Israel, author Doron Pely has brought deep personal conviction and meticulous field research to bear on his study.

PreSchool-Grade 1 A slight episode about a navy-blue cat, new white shoes, and maintaining a positive outlook. Pete the Cat strolls down the street singing, I love my white shoes, I love my white shoes, I love my white shoes. Then he steps in (actually climbs up) a huge hill of strawberries that turn his pristine sneakers red. Did Pete cry? Goodness, no! He kept walking along and singing his song. I love my red shoes.... He proceeds to step in a mound of blueberries and then a mud puddle, each incident changing his sneakers to a new hue (the colors never blend). Unsmiling but placid, Pete takes it all in stride. After stepping into a bucket more like a tub of water, he notices that his sneakers are not only white again, but also wet. Even though they are back to their original color, the next illustration perplexingly shows Pete walking along with each shoe sporting one of the four colors highlighted in the book. Bright, childlike illustrations show the long-limbed feline regularly altering his footwear but continuing not to watch where he's walking. The moral of the story keep going no matter what happens to you in life may sound like good advice, but it doesn't instill any sense of power in children it just tells them to accept their fate. About the Author

Eric Litwinis a guitar-strumming, song-singing, banjo-picking, tale-telling, song-writing, national-award-winning, music-producing, fun, folksy type of guy. He loves to blend song and story together and is inspired by the depth and simplicity of folk songs and folktales. Eric is a popular performer, delighting thousands of children and families every year. He has recorded two award-winning children's music CDs.

James Dean’s art has sold in more than ninety galleries and shops across the United States. He has devoted his paintings to Pete the Cat for fifteen years and has turned his natural love for cats into his life’s work. James published his first adult book, The Misadventures of Pete the Cat, a history of his artwork, in 2006. He illustrated his first self-published children’s book, Pete the Cat: I Love My White Shoes, in 2008, and the follow-up book, Pete the Cat: Rocking in My School Shoes, in 2011. Pete is Superb!

I was extremely disappointed to read the School Library Journal's review of Pete the Cat: I Love My White Shoes. As the owner of a children's bookstore in Decatur, Georgia, I have had a very different experience.

Pete the Cat: I Love My White Shoes has been on the New York Times' Bestseller List for several weeks and has been the best selling book in our store's history. The reason the book has done so well -- incredibly well for an unknown author and illustrator -- is because Pete is a superb book.

Author Eric Litwin has a considerable history of working with children as a teacher, storyteller, and musician. As a result of years of work, Eric has developed an excellent rapport with kids and a deep understanding of how to connect with them using a variety of approaches.

A former electrical engineer, James Dean found his true calling in his second career as a painter. Pete the Cat is a character James created over ten years ago and who has come to be recognized and beloved all over the Atlanta area.

Eric had an idea for a story involving Pete, and subsequently met James by random chance on an Atlanta street. The collaboration began. Drafts were written and sketches were revised. Advice was sought and heeded. When James and Eric were satisfied with their work, the two published the book themselves, selling it on their own and through a handful of bookstores. (Little Shop of Stories was one such store.)

(This is not how a children's picture book typically comes together. In the vast majority of circumstances, an author will submit a manuscript to a publisher. Upon acceptance, an editor will be assigned the key task of selecting an illustrator whose work will not only complement the text but bring an added dimension. There are excellent exceptions where an author and illustrator will submit their work as a team. Jacky Davis and David Soman write and illustrate the Ladybug Girl books. (They're married to each other.) Jon Scieszka and Lane Smith (their wives were co-workers) did The True Story of the Three Little Pigs together and went on to do The Stinky Cheese Man and other books.)

The book sold fantastically well and was subsequently published by Harper Collins. For good reason.

For a children's picture book to be truly successful, it must work for both the child as well as the adult who is asked to read it 100 times. Or more.

From the grownup perspective, Pete is fun to read. The text has a rhythm to it. One can sing the refrain. After only a few reads one can successfully encourage the child to participate. ("Goodness no!") At the same time the parent knows that the younger child is learning colors and the older child, because of the repetition and the visual clues, can begin to learn to read. The illustrations are bright and lively, creative and surreal, and work perfectly with the text.

There is also a moral to Pete's story.

For the child, the book is just fun.

Exceptional fun

We love this book; it is a great find that my 6,5, and 2-year-olds enjoy! I don't understand how the Library reviewer could say, "The moral of the story keep going no matter what happens to you in life may sound like good advice, but it doesn't instill any sense of power in children it just tells them to accept their fate." I think how you look at what life throws at you, while staying true to who you are, is a powerful message. Maintaining a positive attitude can get an individual through many hardships in life and I think this simple story conveys how a positive attitude can elevate a person to handle whatever life throws your way.

5) she loved the cover

My husband and I had never heard of this book prior to buying. I just happened to read reviews and thought, 'why not.'
When it arrived and I read it to myself for the first time, I was left thinking, 'hmm…what's up with the rave reviews. It's just an o-k book.' I showed it to our daughter (2.5) she loved the cover. (We have a cat and she subsequently calls every cat she sees, our cat's name.) So I chalked up her enthusiasm to thinking it was our cat on the cover. I read it once. She really liked it. Admittedly it grew on me a bit by this second read.

Then….then, I looked up the song. Pressed play, not knowing what to expect, or her reaction. The song is HILARIOUS. The book AND the song together…perfection. I don't know what it is, b/c it's literally one of the most simple, basic songs/stories/art/etc I've ever seen and yet, it's genius in its simplicity. These guys nailed it. Whatever 'it' is that resonates so well with the young, and the young at heart. Besides having a great message, that's not heavy handed and actually very intelligently appeals to the complex awareness and mind of a child, while not absolutely driving a parent insane. (at least, not yet..)

Interested in how absolutely enthusiastic my daughter became over this…I played it for my nieces and nephew, ages 12-5 and they ALL loved it. It's weird. Pete is the coolest sh*t since the coolest s***. :)
