Not My Cup of Tea - Erotic Novella

Steamy/Erotic Short Story

The basis of the story was interesting. Julianna Armitage is a young woman who was married at age 18 to a total El Jerko. He wasted his pleasure on whoring with both men and women and Julianna was never given any pleasure in the marital bed. Upon his death after four years into the marriage, she figures no more marriage for her. Instead - she's thinking - why not learn what it means to give and receive pleasure and then take up a lover.

She chooses Marcus Wilding, one of her brother's childhood friends and a man she has known from the time she was a little girl to be her teacher. He's willing, but Julianna has no idea he's interested in her heart as well as her body and has been since dancing with her at Almack's four years previously - shortly before he left to fulfill his service in the military. And, that's about as much of a storyline the reader actually gets because most of the book is taken up with sexually charged encounters between Marcus and Julianna.

This book isn't for everyone and in truth, had it not been a very quick read, I wouldn't have finished the book. I'm more interested in a great story than erotica.

Steamy short story

This was a very straightforward story. The heroine is just coming out of mourning for her good for nothing husband. She had been married to him for four years and she had been miserable. He hadn't been physically abusive but hadn't been a gentle and tender lover. In fact he had taken his pleasure elsewhere with whores and whomever else he could find.

The heroine had been in love with the hero since she was 18. She has come to him to ask that he teach her the art of giving and receiving sexual pleasure. He is supposed to be one of the most capable lovers in London.

The hero has been in love with her since she was 18, but he was going off to war and didn't feel it would be right for him to offer for her. When and if he came back he meant to ask her to marry him. However upon his return he learned she had married.

So here they find themselves -- she realizes she never stopped loving him, and he knows he never got over her. But he thinks she doesn't want to marry again but instead take a lover.

The story is of her awakening to not only the physical feelings of love but to her feelings for him. The story is short and there is no distraction from the main characters.

The writing was good and it was an OK story.

Nearing the end of her mourning period, Lady Julianna ...

Nearing the end of her mourning period, Lady Julianna Armitage makes the resolute decision that she will never remarry and will instead embrace the freedom of her independence and take a lover. Since her husband was cold and heartless towards her, she turns to her brother’s friend, Marcus Wilding, to teach her how to please a man.

There isn’t much to say about this very short novella. 97% of the story centers around Marcus’ lessons which are premised on the five sense – sight, sound, smell, taste, and touch. The dialogue is stiff, the words belying the internal thoughts and desires of both characters. Julianna’s characterization wavers between innocence and carnal knowledge — she is a lady who wants to take a lover, yet is scandalized at the thought of seeing a naked man; though she spent three years in a cruel marriage and is in desperate need of lessons in how to pleasure a man, she turns out to be surprisingly adept at doing all the things she asked Marcus to teach her despite her complete lack of experience.

The “romance” is of the insta-love variety, which actually comes from a dance they shared together at Almack’s four years earlier.

About the Author
Mario Quagliariello is Head of the Risk Analysis Unit at the European Banking Authority (EBA). He previously served as a senior economist in the Regulation and Supervisory Policies Department of Banca d'Italia. He has been the representative of Banca d'Italia in a number of international working groups dealing with financial stability issues at the ECB, CEBS, IMF and the Basel Committee for Banking Supervision and has published several articles in international and Italian journals. His interests concern macro-prudential analysis and stress tests, Basel 2 Capital Accord and procyclicality, the economics of financial regulation. He holds a PhD in Economics from the University of York, UK.

About the Author
Lance Workman is principal lecturer and head of department of psychology at Bath Spa University College. He has written numerous articles on biological psychology and on animal behaviour, and recently wrote the evolutionary psychology section of the Encarta encyclopedia.

Will Reader is senior lecturer in psychology at Sheffield Hallam University, specialising in developmental psychology, cognitive psychology and human-computer interaction. He has published articles in all these areas.

Great Sourcebook on the Subject

This book is well-written and easy-to-read. I bought this book not for class but to teach myself about the subject. After reading this book, I feel that I have a good understanding of broad topics within the domain. Moreover, I am confident that I can use this book to guide me toward sources that delve deeper into the various broad topic areas.
