Written by a well-respected scholar who has spent decades studying the consequences of the Vietnam War, this text presents the issues in a clear and compelling style that encourages straightforward understanding of complex issues and allows readers to draw their own conclusions about the reasons for America’s failure in the war. A final chapter assesses the competing “lessons” of the war as drawn from orthodox and revisionist histories and the extent to which they have influenced American national security policy over the last forty years.

About the Author
Gary R. Hess is Distinguished Research Professor of History at Bowling Green State University, where he taught for forty-five years. His publications include The United States at War, 1941–1945 (Wiley, 3rd edition, 2010), Presidential Decisions for War: Korea, Vietnam, the Persian Gulf, and Iraq (rev. ed., 2009), Vietnam and the United States: Origins and Legacy of War 1941–1945 (1998), and The United States’ Emergence as a Southeast Asian Power (1987).

Linda Jeffries hold a master's degree in TESOL from Boston University. She has taught reading, writing, and ESL/EFL at Boston College, Boston University, in the Harvard University Summer ESL Program, and at the University of Opole, in Poland. I picked up this book along with a few others and found this one to superior. It is well laid out, very clear and has pretty much all the information you would need if you are a tutor or thinking of becoming one.

This book answered many questions about how to properly start and run a tutoring business. It is written in easy-to-understand language with helpful tips on many pages. The example templates for communication with parents and bookkeeping ideas were especially helpful. Highly recommended!

Some good information, but not very useful for established teachers.

I really think this would be best for people just starting out, like a recent college graduate, to get the basics on tutoring. I am pretty specialized (high school biology, chemistry, physics and ACT science prep), have a website already and have a teaching job already.

I definitely think that some ideas got me to think about good marketing strategies, and for that, it was worth the price on kindle.

Highly selective passages chosen

This textbook selectively splices little tidbits from the great political philosophers in such a way that misconstrues their major projects. It is meant to be selections from the primary sources, but the selection of passages chosen for this textbook grossly oversimplifies many of the thinkers. Central and important passages from texts are left out while other less important passages are chosen for inclusion.

Adam Filippi is the Director of Global Scouting for the Charlotte Hornets, after spending 10 seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers and winning 3 NBA championship rings. As a player development coach, Adam has worked with over 100 NBA and overseas professional players. Specializing in shooting technique, and a world class shooter himself, Adam has written 2 books: in February 2011, he released his first instructional basketball book SHOOT LIKE THE PROS: The Road to a Successful Shooting Technique, with a foreword by Jerry West; in April 2016, his second book, Mastering the Art of Free Throw Shooting, with a foreword by Hubie Brown. A Certified Personal Trainer and Performance Enhancement Specialist by the National Academy of Sports Medicine, he has conducted camps, workshops and clinics in the USA, Spain, Italy, China, Ireland, Sweden, United Arab Emirates and more, to teach fundamental basketball skills to players of all ages and levels.

Basic, intermediate, some advanced...excellent!

My son seem to improved his skills, technics, tactics and fine tune / adjustment to his shots. Practice make pefect. Believe in yourself, don't second guess yourself (don't become your own worst enemy.). Practice, be positive and supportive. Love the games, win or lose, it's all about having fun, improve your skills, technics and tactical. Peace in the courts, keep it fun and real.

In the first two chapters Appleton outlines a European history of ideas about aesthetics to answer the question: What is it that we like about landscape and why to do we like it? He then uses John Dewey's Art as Experience (1938) to develop analytical tools to use to propose and investigate hypotheses about why we like particular landscapes.
The approach might be useful in other areas such as architecture when the reason for asking the initial question is for the purpose of producing or locating a work of art.

"The first formal right hepatectomy was reported by Lortat-Jacob and Robert in 1952. Before that time surgeons tried to steer clear of liver sugery because of the risk of uncontrollable haemorrhage and the operative mortality rate of at least 20 percent. However a widening knowledge of segmental hepatic anatomy described by Couinaud in 1957, and elaborated by Bismuth in 1982, led to the development of safe resectional techniques for the various major segments of the liver so intraoperative deaths have become rare events in elective liver surgery. The techniques of hepatobiliary surgery have developed rapidly and the subject is now recognised as a subspecialty in its own right to encompass very advanced procedures such as transplantation from living, related donors, split liver transplantation and neonatal liver replacement. This book (dedicated to the memory of Professor Gozzetti of Bologna) is an atlas of every type of surgical technique applicable to liver surgery and is based on the work of the surgical department in Bologna over more than 15 years. A brief summary of current concepts of hepatic anatomy is followed by descriptions of the standard methods of liver resection as well as the more unusual and difficult operations designed to resect single segments such as the caudate lobe (segment 1), segment 4 or segment 8. Other topics include total vascular occlusion of the liver, which is a very valuable surgical technique for extensive tumours, intraoperative ultrasound, portal embolisation and the management of trauma. The surgery of cystic disease of the liver and tumours of the bile ducts is included and almost one third of the volume is devoted to a comprehensive review of the techniques of liver transplantation. I appreciated the inclusion of discussions on possible technical complications in many of the sections, especially as the authors detail the methods of management. These comments are valuable and extremely useful for any newcomer to liver s rgery. As a minor criticism I would have preferred the more general sections of the text to have been grouped at the beginning of the book to form an introduction to the chapters concerned with resectional techniques. It seems a little unusual to describe and illustrate all of the standard operations before introducing a discussion on the general principles of liver resection in section 14, and the indications for liver resection in section 18. Throughout the text there are references to the results of the various operations, but these are, of necessity, rather restricted in scope and the reader would have to refer to other texts for further data. The superb quality of the illustrations, produced in the department of anatomy of Bologna, provides the outstanding feature of this book, although it was a little disappointing to find that the section devoted to the resection of tumours of the extrahepatic bile ducts was not illustrated in the same manner and the intraoperative photographs used in this chapter lack the clarity of the illustrations in the other sections. A potential purchaser of a book on liver resection can now choose from a wide range of texts but in my opinion this book should be high on the list. The technique of illustration avoids the simplification of the more usual type of line diagram and avoids the lack of clarity which often accompanies the reproduction of intraoperative photographs. It really does give a good impression of the 'feel' of liver surgery and does not avoid discussion of the potential hazards. Furthermore although the book was designed primarily as a manual for liver surgeons I am sure that any gastroenterologist with an interest in liver medicine would appreciate the illustrations both as an extremely useful guide to the current surgical repertoire of liver surgery and as an extremely fine example of the art of the medical illustrator." - Reviewed by E. About the Author
George Omura is an architect, illustrator, and animator who has worked on design projects ranging from resort hotels to metropolitan transit systems. He has written numerous other AutoCAD books for Sybex, including Just Enough AutoCAD, Mastering AutoCAD 2005 and AutoCAD LT 2005, Mastering AutoCAD 2004 and AutoCAD LT 2004, and Mastering Autodesk VIZ 4.

Great for learning AutoCAD !

I had a need to learn to get around in AutoCAD. I am office manager in a machine shop. I eventually found that knowing my way around AutoCAD would be helpful to me and to the people I work for.

I tried several books and was not satisfied. Then I found this one. The lessons and explanations are great. The author does not stick just to architectual drawings as many books do. There is extensive emphasis on drawing of individual parts, just what I needed. It also does a great job on 3-D drawing. This is the way the industry does it now. They usually begin with a fully 3-D (solid) drawing and derive the 2-D work from that. This book will show you how. It also comes with a CD that provides you with sample drawings that go along with the text. Look for the version that best matches the release of AutoCAD you are using.

For someone that just used 3D modeling programs, this bok helped a lot for figuring out how AutoCAD work. I would definitely recommend to anyone who is learning AutoCAD.
